Many Hands, One Community

A new group formed about a year ago, St. Croix Valley Catholic Young Adults. They are young adults (18-29) who gather for prayer, service, and socialization. Last Sunday they had an event they called “Labor then Lounge.” The group sent small groups out to a few different places to offer service. Then they rejoined together for pizza and a movie. We in Hudson were blessed with their service. They began at the Carmelite Monastery. There they helped the Sisters by moving some furniture and doing a few other tasks. Then they came to Saint Patrick’s. Here they planted maple trees that were donated by a parishioner. Before leaving, they did some taping in preparation for painting. You can find them on Instagram at saint.c.v.c. Their next event is going to involve grilling priests. (And S’mores and hot dogs too!)

Thanks to Tami Wettstein for donating the two maple trees. A great story behind them is that she found them growing in her yard when they were only a couple of inches tall. She transplanted them into pots and then larger pots. As they are now about ten feet tall, they outgrew her house. They are perfect for our property. One is near the gaga pit. It is replacing an Ash tree that we had to take down as it died. The other tree is in the triangle across from the bell, by the front entrance. 

Watch in the coming weeks as there will be some more landscape changes at our parish. We have a Scout who, for his Eagle Award, is going to relandscape the area near the lower parking lot that is between the parking lot and drive. This area needs some attention, and we look forward to seeing the complete project when it is finished. 

This week, school began in Hudson. This includes our own Saint Patrick School. It was great to see the teachers and staff return. Next came the students. The building is again filled with teachers excited to teach, staff eager to support the teachers and students, and students ready to learn. It takes a great deal of work to prepare for the school year. Thanks to our maintenance, office staff, and administration who worked through the summer making sure we would be ready for the first day of school.

The Hudson School District changed the start time for their schools. As a result, our start time changed as well. This affects our Wednesday Mass times. When Mass is at school, it will start at 9:15. Usually on the first Wednesday of the month, Mass is at church. These Masses start at 9:30. Anyone is welcome to attend the Masses with our school students. However, make note that when our school students are at church, the church doors will be locked from 9 AM to 10:30 AM. Access will only be possible through the main doors and lower-level doors. Personnel will be by these doors, but only by these doors, to let people in. At the school, entrance for Mass is through the main entrance, across from the parking lot,on 4^th Street. 

Let’s all pray for a safe, productive, and blessed school year for all students, teachers, and staff. Our prayers are the greatest gift we can give them.
