COMPUTER TECHNOLOGY
Computer Technology class is taught by a
knowledgeable instructor who incorporates the use of technology
while learning about other subjects. All students in the school have
their own user log-on and e-mail address for educational purposes. The
school has filtered high-speed internet for students to use for research
and learning.
Sixth Grade:
Computers in sixth grade
centers on Art History. Computer class is a year long subject. Students will be
doing individual research (using books as well as the internet) on a specific
Art History period. They will learn how to take notes on note cards and arrange
them in an outline for a research paper. The final project will be to create a
PowerPoint presentation telling about their Art Period. Prior to this project,
we will review keyboarding techniques and learn outlining skills for
organization and study skills. Throughout the year they will have homework for
these projects. Considering the amount of effort and time going into each
project, these projects are expected to be of high quality.
Seventh Grade:
Students meet second semester twice
a week for 40 minutes.
Computer class in seventh grade centers on social studies and advertising
design. Students will choose a country to research and learn many aspects
about. They will do research through books as well as the internet. The
students then portray the head of the Board of Tourism in their country and
have to design a Travel Brochure to entice and give information to tourists.
These projects are rather in-depth and take most of each quarter. They will be
turned in at the end of the quarters so there will be no mid-term reports on
progress. Considering the amount of effort and time going into each project,
high quality projects are required.
Eighth Grade: Students meet second semester twice a week for 40 minutes.
In computer class in the eighth grade we colonize the moon. The students first learn facts about the moon and things related to travel to the moon and create a PowerPoint explaining their research. The students present these PowerPoints to the whole class and are graded on preparedness and presentation. The students then research the government and constitution of a few specific countries and come together as "Founding Fathers" to create their own government and constitute for their moon colony.
