Minutes of February Meeting
St. Patrick Church Pastoral Council February 28, 2006 Minutes (approved ) Present: Fr. John, Sr. Bernadette, Ed Hanson, Sam Cari, Rick Reams, Mark Sturino, Randy Morrissette, Howard Cameron, Jeanne Darnold, Mary Seyer, Therese Bogenhagen, Call to Order: Ed Hanson called the meeting to order at 7:05 pm. Opening Prayer: The meeting began with Father Parr leading the council in prayer Agenda: Approved Minutes: The minutes from the January 24th meeting were approved as presented. Religious Formation Program: Maryann Kappler, Director of Religious Education reported to the council on an intergenerational catechesis program. Maryann had attended a seminar on this program and was working with her committee and Father John in investigating ways this program could be implemented in our parish. The program offers parishioners the opportunity to learn about our faith as a family with all age groups coming together instead of in a school setting where students are grouped by age and grade. The council thanked Maryann for her information and asked her to keep the council informed on the progress of this very interesting program. Parish Concerns: Father John reminded the council of the special meeting scheduled for March 11th. The council discussed who could attend and who should attend this meeting. The council agreed that each council member would try to ensure that a member from each standing committee would be present at the March 11th meeting. It was also suggested that the Finance Committee and Trustees be invited to this important meeting. Convent/Rectory Update: Father John informed the council that the convent has been sold to Catholic Charities. The rectory is still for sale and he will inform the council if it is sold. Parish Council Elections: Father John appointed Ed Hanson, Sam Cari and Mary Seyer to the nominating committee for the elections to be held in April. Terry Bogenhagen‘s, Ed Hanson‘s, and Randy Morrissette’s term of service will end this May. The council discussed how communication can be improved between the standing committees and the council. It was suggested that the council and the committees should work together on a project such as the intergenerational catechesis to reach out to all the groups in the parish. Father Peter Father John and Sister Bernadette reported that they had visited with Father Peter and that he was feeling much better. He has numerous visitors and is even saying Mass at the nursing home in Stillwater. Stewardship: Howard Cameron reported that he and Father John are working on a presentation for the fall. Father John stated that, stewardship is about asking what can I give to the Lord in recognition for all he has given me. Committee Reports: Family Life: Rick Reams reported that the committee had invited Mark Nelson to speak on intergenerational catechesis and they were waiting for a response. Religious Formation: Jeanne Darnold shared with the committee that the elementary children are raising funds for Sr. Bernadette for an orphanage in Guatemala where 87 children reside. The 7th and 8th grade program is having a dance on Friday, March 10th. Mark Nelson still needs assistance in raising money for the 9th 10th and 11th grade students who are going on the Mission trips this summer. Maryann Kappler reported that Vacation Bible school will be the second week of July this year. The fourth grade students will be receiving reconciliation on March 29th and that 84 students will be receiving First Eucharist this May. School Education: Mary Seyer reported that the Education Committee is working on a wellness policy for the school as required by Federal Regulations. Becky Dostal a parishioner has volunteered to work on development for the school and will be working closely with Claire Zajac and Mary Piasecki and the Stewardship Committee. Social Concerns: Sam Cari reported that Ted and Maureen Wegleitner have volunteered to chair the committee. Sr. Bernadette reported that the committee in looking into asking for volunteers to work for one week in the areas devastated by Hurricane Katrina. The Social Concerns committee would like all the committees to consider buying Peace Coffee for all church functions. Council Members agreed to take this idea back to their committees for discussion. It was discussed how issues of Social Justice could be presented to the parish family it was agreed to put this on the agenda for a future meeting. . Evangelization: Therese Bogenhagen reported that 130 people have signed up for the Bible study the Purpose Driven Life, 20 people have signed up for the Ireland Trip. June 4th through Aug. 13th there will be a program offered at 6:00pm on our Catholic Faith Update and August 17th Father Parr will be leading a group to tour St. John’s Abby in Collegeville Minnesota. Buildings and Maintenance: Mark Sturino reported that the sound system is in the process of being fixed and that now everyone should be able to hear every word that Father John speaks during mass. The dishwasher at the church which is over 30 years old is in need of repair and will have to be replaced in the near future. The council thanked Mark for contributing his time and talent to keeping our parish up and running. Adjournment: The meeting was adjourned at approximately 8:45pm.
