MIDDLE SCHOOL SCIENCE CURRICULUM
SIXTH GRADE:
Sixth grade science focuses on General Science. Topics covered are: Zoology, Ecology, Chemistry, Astronomy, Geology, Physics, and the Scientific Method. Students may find themselves learning the forty basic elements, classifying compounds, learning genetics and heredity, studying the science behind problem solving, classifying rocks and their ages, learning about the life cycle of stars, and earth's ecosystems.
SEVENTH GRADE:
Seventh grade Science focuses on Life Science. Whether it's learning about the plant structures, or discussing the cell theory, this whole class revolves on one main topic - life. Students will find themselves learning all the parts of plants, studying cell respiration and cell structure, participating in vertebrate animal dissections, discussing human life and diseases. Students will also learn about all the different systems and organs our bodies have and our life cycle along with other animals. Topics studied in this class include; Botany, Zoology, Animals, Vertebrates, and Human Life.

EIGHTH GRADE:
Eighth grade Science focuses on Earth Science. Topics studied include: Ecology, Physics, Astronomy, Geology, Oceanography, and Paleontology. Students will find themselves experimenting with solar heating by creating their own solar houses. While studying Astronomy, students will be learning with their own "re-entry vehicles". In Geology, students will learn to identify different rock types along with their sub-types. In Ecology, students will discuss the importance of both fresh water and salt water and the habitats for animals. ecology covers biotic indexing, pollution problems, measurement of environmental quality and chemistry. Limnology and Oceanography involves the life zones and major life types in our oceans, and Paleontology studies the history of dinosaurs and also the techniques that are used.
