Executive Summary Home & School Association March 11th, 2008 Meeting

President’s Summary:

· Judge Candidates: it was a great but time limited opportunity to meet the Judge candidates.

· Online Straw-Man Voting/ Directive: Implementation of this process went well, with N=48 people participating. Using H&S funds for the Summer Send-Off Party (SSOP) was supported by 87% of those providing guidance; 8th grade graduation and Teacher/Staff Appreciation Dinner by 98% each. Almost all respondents complied with the request for their name. Anonymous comments were discarded. Thank-you to all who provided civility in their dissenting responses.

· Parent Education: Deb Perfect, RN and Greg Young, MD provided information on childhood obesity; children’s exercise and sleep needs; and parental management of children’s diet/eating behaviors. If you are concerned with these or related issues, I highly recommend you talk to either presenter for more information.

· Minimum Volunteer Hours: Angie Doffing is collecting information on total # of volunteer hours needed to run non-classroom specific activities/processes. Results to be shared in next H&S meeting.

· H&S 2008-2009 Officers: We still do not have a Vice-President for the next school year. If you are interested or know someone who would make a good officer, please have him/her contact either Kiki Roth or Kim Burns for more information.

· April Budgeting Meeting: The original date of April 8th needs to be changed due to conflicts with First Communion Family Meeting. The rescheduled date is now Tuesday, April 22nd, starting at 6:30.

· Q& A Discussion: Kiki Roth briefly introduced two ideas. The first is to change the past process of recognizing/awarding only a few individuals as Volunteers of the Year during the Spring Arts Festival to a process that recognizes all volunteers, specifically the known and unknown contributions of so many. The second is to develop and implement a process for recognizing and awarding teachers for implementation of innovative instruction/teaching strategies. If you are interested in either or both of these, please contact Kiki Roth with your suggestions/ideas and/or come to the next H&S meeting to discuss further.

· January Financial Statement:

o Ending Balance on February 29, 2008 $9,690

o Balance after Reservations $7,750

o Stipend Payment: $0 (waiting until after Gala given low balance after reserve)
